Fight Utility Extortion- Refuse to Pay their Fees!

March 27, 2012

My name is Diane Dutton and my husband Bob and my teenage son and I live in Watsonville, CA.  I enjoy my community and I love to grow food and flowers in my garden.  I’m not generally an activist, but the issue of forced smart meter installations really got me alarmed enough to take action.  So I started this website.   FightTheFees.org is dedicated to standing up for our right to choose, our right to health and safety, and our right to privacy.  We support a no-penalty opt out for utility customers everywhere.  We have the right to choose.

We have a right to keep a safe, accurate analog meter on our homes and businesses at no charge. Together, we can FIGHT THE FEES- and win!

Please join us and send me a photo of you and/or your family holding up a simple handmade sign about why you love your analog and oppose smart meters and extortionate opt out fees.   Get your neighbors involved too!  Together we can demonstrate how the grid of our community is way stronger-and smarter than the “smart” grid.  Keep your distance, especially if you have a ‘smart’ meter! People are getting hurt.  We don’t recommend kissing your meter- even if it is an analog- all electric meters emit EMF’s!

Submit your photos (under 500kb) to: fightsmartmeterfees@gmail.com  Please tell us where you are located.  Thanks everyone!

Wait! Isn’t the Supreme Court deciding if it is unconstitutional to force people to buy health
insurance? Isn’t this the same thing? PG&E forcing us to “buy” SmartMeters????? I don’t
    get it.

  2. We should not have to pay on somethign that is causing health problems! Not only are we paying for the meter to be on our homes, but we have to pay for it to NOT be on our homes as well? Well, that is not making any kind of “cents” for us.

I am prepared to pay the $10 a month to have my analog meter read. I will not pay $75 for something
I already have. If enough people stand down, and if it comes to turning off our utilities, there
will be legal ramifications against PG&E.

  3. I put heavy duty aluminum foil on the inside wall of my bedroom , which stopped the smart meter from making me sick . I refuse to take it down because I would rather live with foil walls than pay PG&E another penny !!!!!

What strikes me about “Why pay to opt out? We never opted in.,” with which I agree emotionally, is that it’s same argument Republicans are using right now to try to defeat so-called Obamacare? They say no-one should be penalized,  ie have to pay a penalty if they choose not to purchase insurance under Obamacare, ie no-one should be FORCED to purchase insurance. Most of the people I know would prefer that this conservative activist US Supreme Court not strike down the health insurance mandate on constitutional grounds because it is essential to the workability of the law.  If we think it is illegal for PG&E to REQUIRE it’s customers to accept the smart meter or else pay a fee, how is our argument different in principle? Can we have it both ways? Seems like an interesting question to me – these are strange and interesting times.

PG&E says that the one time fee of $75 is a “set-up fee”. Set-up fee? My house is 20 years old and has had PG&E the entire time, it has been “set-up” for 20 years! They also say that the $10 a month fee is for meter reading. Do they really want us to believe that they have been reading the meters all this time for free? The meter reading fee has always been built in to the rates we pay. So really, our rates should go down by $10 a month right? Are there any plans for a class action law suit? This scam needs to be stopped.

  6. Bottom line, I do NOT like anything forced upon me. PG&E did just this. I attended the Smart meter meeting in SF state building. What a sham PG&E did not answer our most basic questions. I put my name on their lists and they changed my meters when I was gone for two days. I am retired and usually home. I would have fought them off my property. After all they cam on my property and made changes that attached something to my house that I did not agree with and further made know.
